Adobe Digital Publishing

Today I’ve started thinking about how I’m going to create a video based application for the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch. The Adobe Digital Publishing suite was suggested to me in the first term, but I never really looked into it. It’s definitely a more approachable route for me as I’m not a hands on application designer that I can build one from scratch through coding.

Adobe have really catered their digital publishing suite for magazine publishing companies. It’s very evident in the introductory video that the software basically converts what would be just a physical print item, into something post-digital. I’m confident the people who created the Flipboard application used the Adobe digital publishing suite.

It’s clear I’m going to have some slight restrictions of making an application using the Adobe suite as opposed to building one using Apple’s development kit. I’m not an experienced programmer so I’m going to have to be realistic about what I can produce in the time that I have to complete this project.

As I mentioned in a previous entry, I’m quite attracted to the user interface design of the Flipboard application. If I can achieve something like that and use it to my advantage I’d be quite pleased. I want to carry on from my Specialist Project, which was a video documenting life in the current economic times. It’s quite a recycled concept, ‘documenting life’, but I was convinced that it differentiated from other videos of a similar concept from the fact that it was shot on an iPhone. With its incredible full HD video camera, it’s become an ideal device to shoot videos on. The best part of it is, I could film discreetly.
